2012 Annual School on Addictions & Behavioral Health
The Alaska Addiction Professionals Association is pleased to invite you to participate in the 38th Annual School on Addictions & Behavioral Health! Join us this coming May 7-9, 2012 at the Sheraton Hotel for this traditional Alaskan conference as we explore the issues related to "New Challenges - New Tools: Innovations in Recovery".
This year's theme reflects the challenges we face to provide comprehensive care for the ever-present and growing problems our communities experience each day. Our people struggle with the trauma of domestic violence, the re-adjustment issues for returning Veterans, the alarming increase in heroin use, and the all too frequent devastating effects of suicide to name but a few. And with needful services difficult to access, professionals are tasked with containing mental health and substance use crisis as best they can with the few resources available to them.
But, this year's conference will also focus on the expanding innovations in recovery and the new tools clinicians can use to help those in need. There is a growing list of effective Promising Practices to add to the tried and true interventions we have all relied upon. The integration of primary care and behavioral health has opened new opportunities to assist a number of people who might not otherwise seek treatment. The use of prescription medication in recovery, new after-care services (especially for opiod dependency) and the inclusion of family in treatment continue to expand the possibilities for recovery.
There is no doubt that Alaskan communities continue to experience difficult challenges for the prevention, treatment and recovery of mental health and substance use problems. The hope is that behavioral health professionals will continue to meet the challenge through emerging science and innovative services. The Annual School offers the right training at the right time for the behavioral health workforce. Join us May 7-9 and learn how to lead others toward successful recovery.
